Tucked away in a Los Angeles botanical garden Oct. 24, and surrounded by a small group of family and close friends, the 24-year-old actress married musician Josiah Bell.

While she describes the wedding as “beautiful, moving and personal,” especially since her pastor father-in-law performed the ceremony, Smollett says putting the wedding together was almost as much fun and rewarding as the main event. “It was such a fun process,” the actress says. “We didn’t hire a wedding planner. Josiah and I literally decided every detail together.”


And she even averted the dreaded bridezilla role by keeping her partner close. “I didn’t have the pressure of wondering whether or not the groom would like certain things,” she says. “He was right there for every decision.”

How has life changed for Smollett since tying the knot?

“It’s incredible,” she says. “My best friend is my life partner. It doesn’t get any better than that.”
